Ron adds:

"He who givens himself to vanity, and does not give himself to meditation, forgetting the real aim of life and grasping at pleasure, will in time envy him who has exerted himself in meditation." The Buddha
Jeanne replies:
Love that Buddha quote... I'd never heard that one before. It is so true. Reminds me of the aged meditators I see at the courses... with their beautiful posture and clear sparkling eyes. Inspiring... and something to aspire to.

Jeanne, Becoming a Deeksha (Oneness Blessing) Giver, I have often wondered how we can teach others to give themselves that Gift! Then I was meditating this AM, and realized Vipassana Meditation is indeed that Gift! I am going to set a date soon for another ten dayer.
thanks for the inspiration, ron

Comment by Jeanne Something about this being a journey that no other can do for you... Vipassana is a gift you must give yourself. I tell everyone I know about it... but have come to realize that its like a calling... and we're all called to different paths. Though for most of us who have done a 10 dayer, theres an unspoken understanding, a knowing... like one young woman said... "there's your bio-family and there's your vipassana family." We are also planning another 10 dayer in May...

Thanks, Terry! I agree, and I am divided in my practice and in my life right now. I spend half the week supporting the family in different part of state, where I have not been able to meditate.
However, the half-week I spend here, I do practice and get alot out of it, including occasional "realization". The best result is when I quiet my busy monkey mind, which is unfortunately occasional also.
Time for my second ten day silent retreat. Thanks for the reminder, ron

Ron, the nice thing about such realizations is they represent the reality of your experience - rather than something your read in a book or hear from someone else. As such, they (realizations) are all the more meaningful, and contribute to your spiritual growth in a meaningful way. I am happy you are persisting in your meditation practice.

Thanks Jeanne, you are inspiring Light of the World, ron
I am going to copy below and add it to my posts. I know you won't mind!

Another day... another abundance of opportunities to observe the miracles of the moment. I could prattle on about how I have experienced similar moments millions of times before... but I haven't. There is never... never! any time like this moment. It is always the most important time... and the only one you can create in - just that little bit of power is our key to fulfillment.
Learning to live the moment... is to become fully alive. Be here now.

I am grateful for this realization this morning while meditating:

Key to Freedom: Forgiveness - dismiss any defensive, judgemental thoughts, resist taking offense.

If the negative thoughts come through anyway repeat the Ho'oponopono prayer. "I am sorry, please forgive me...thank you, I love you." The uplifting results of this prayer along with meditation, and I feel lighter, more loving and more liberated.

Music is looked upon as something serious and holy, designed to purify the feelings of the people. The enthusiasm of the heart expresses itself involuntarily in a burst of song or the rhythmic movement of the body. From immemorial times the inspiring affects that moves all hearts, and draws them together, has mystified mankind.
The ancient kings made music in order to honor merit, and offered it with splendor to the Supreme Deity inviting their ancestors to be present. In the Temple folks drew near to God with music and pantomimes. The Ancestors were invited to these divine rituals as guests of the ruler of heaven and as representatives of humanity in the higher regions. This uniting of the human past with the Divinity in revering his ancestors with solemn moments of spiritual inspiration established the bond between God and man. Our first Earthdance and Theater.

Below I wrote about creating the capacity to receive - quoting Tagore and Jeanne.
Also, besides the combination of silence and meditation, fasting creates space to receive for me. Formerly, I fasted 40 hrs. straight 8pm Monday to 12pm on Wed. Now, it is more convenient for me to fast 20 hrs 2x per week. My best days are 6pm Mon. to 2pm on Tues. and then again 6pm on Tues. to 2pm on Wed. I drink mostly green tea with lemon juice on those fasting days. Everyday I fast 12 hours per day (8pm to 8am) - making it a real break fast.
may everyone be happy and free and have a lot of capacity to receive, ron
