I have just returned from a nearbye island where I walk to help protect the Loggerhead turtle nests. This is my third season, and I am so grateful for nature - the amazing journey of these amazing mammals for thousands of miles. Somehow some females born near here find their way back to the same area after 25 years to build their nests. This last uninhabited isle is the best place and it is an honor to be a nest protector for them. And I am so grateful for my enhanced health this year. I have much more energy than the last two seasons of walking the beach. I fast for 36 hours every week and this has helped me a much more conscious eater, and hence, more energy.

Leaves

One by one, like leaves from a tree,
All my faiths have forsaken me;
But the stars above my head
Burn in white and delicate red,
And beneath my feet the earth
Brings the sturdy grass to birth.
I who was content to be
But a silken-singing tree,
But a rustle of delight
In the wistful heart of night--
I have lost the leaves that knew
Touch of rain and weight of dew.
Blinded by a leafy crown
I looked neither up nor down--
But the little leaves that die
Have left me room to see the sky;
Now for the first time I know
Stars above and earth below.

I am grateful for my Mina & Jim. They greet me every morning. They are with me every night. Their pretty doggie eyes, full of love and light!

Gratitude is for me acknowledging what is, instead of my fears and interpretations of what had been and what could be.

I had a yoga teacher that taught yoga at San Quentin. I had another positive thinking teacher at College of Marin who taught in prisons and said that when a one prisoner changed his vibration for the better he was released. He had been busy hating his wife and decided to try thinking loving thoughts about her instead and was released from prison and resumed his relationship with his wife when he was released.

I am thankful for my garden the sun my quiet location for my friends and the pets in my life and the limitless abundance in my life as well.

I want to give gratitude to Ron (?), the "Mental Health Director" of the worst prison in Alabama, who in 2002 convinced his dubious higher ups to bring Vipassana Meditation into the prison.

There is a wonderful documentary about it called The Dhamma Brothers. They worked with hardened lifers mostly in for murder. After a ten day silent meditation retreat, these guys went through an amazing transformation. They continued a meditation group afterwards but had to shut it down (2002) because of a Christian chaplain, but continued the group under another name and with a new chaplain and warden. The teachers came in for another ten day retreat in 2006 and the group is flourishing, And the teachers were able to go into another prison in Alabama.
As a result of watching this film, I wish all prisons would incorporate it, and I will probably refresh & restart my Vipassana Meditation!
