DESCRIPTION:The public is invited to attend ArtEsteem’s 11th annual 
 art exhibit “Reflections of Me and My World”, on Saturday May 16, 
 2009 from 3pm to 6pm. The exhibit, reception, and art sale is being he
 ld at Oliver Gallery – California College of the Arts, Oakland, CA. 
 A Super Hero Award will be given to Mario Chiodo for his passion to in
 spire others to take action through art. Mario says, “Art can make a
  difference”.\nThe Attitudinal Healing Connection is pleased to pres
 ent this exhibition in partnership with the California College of the 
 Arts Center for Art and Public Life. Reflections of Me and My World 20
 09 offer an introspective aesthetic approach to developing strategies 
 for reinvention of our communities and ourselves. The exhibition highl
 ights thoughtful and provocative visual and performing art created by 
 ArtEsteem students. Giving voice to dreams, desires and concerns, thes
 e young artist are creatively engaged in a yearlong learning process, 
 developing skills and techniques in visual arts, fashion design and cu
 ltural expression. Students use concepts from personal, local, nationa
 l, global, and imaginary heroes to create their own positive character
 s. Their Superheroes solve problems and transform communities using no
 nviolent and optimistic methods.\n\nThis exhibition celebrates ArtEste
 em along with the growth of its successful partnerships. AHC is proud 
 to invite its supporters and constituents to an exhibit that exposes A
 rtEsteem children and youth to the California College of the Arts facu
 lty and students and offers a respected venue for families and the pub
 lic to witness the potential of young people as artists, scholars, cit
 izens and critical thinkers. This exhibition hopes to inspire and invo
 ke the inner spirit to become alert to essential social and environmen
 tal concerns. The event will spotlight art that expresses the critical
  thinking, realities, and dreams of self and society, created by child
 ren and youth ages 6 to 18. Most of the art will be for sale and stude
 nts will receive 20% of the proceeds from the sale of their pieces. Th
 ere will be a fashion show, presenting the work of Fashion Design stud
 ents. Additionally, children in the Cultural Arts class will perform. 
 Based on past years, the exhibit is expected to draw more than 500 pat
