Students, teachers and parent s can create art projects, videos, music and essays using the theme †œWhat peace means to me” (www.unityberkeley.org) and submit them to our festival.\n“We have received a seed grant from Academy Award win ning Berkeley film maker Saul Zaentz, producer of such film classics a s One Flew Over a Cuckoo’s Nest and Amadeus,” said festival organi zer Emmy Award winning producer and designer Stephanie Slade of Slade Digital (www.sladedigital.com)\n“Our first annual Unity Peace Festiv al is designed to spotlight Expressions of Peace, Personal, Powerful a nd Heart to Heart,” Ms. Slade said. “The event includes a stage sh ow, key note speakers, the peace cafĂ© and food court, Peace Tables fo r like minded non-profits, arts and crafts for peace, a ‘speak your peace’ soap box, an art show, a book signing, workshops, and a film screening”.\nOne of the organizers and a sponsor of the Unity Peace Festival is Takashi Tanemori who survived the 1945 atomic bombing of H iroshima where he lived with his family. His father, mother, grandpare nts and two sisters were killed in the bombing. He survived a suicide attempt, two heart attacks and stomach cancer, and now is blind as a r esult of nuclear radiation from the attack.\n“My anger consumed me f or 40 years after many in my family died in the bombing,” Mr. Tanemo ri said.\n\"Everything I've experienced, each instant, has brought me to where I am now,\" he explained. \"I realized my life was spared for a reason,\" he added.\nMr. Tanemori wrote Hiroshima: Bridge to Forgiv eness, published in 2007 and will be signing his book at our festival. \n“The website, www.unitypeacefilmproject.com is developing nicely,⠀ Ms. Slade said “and will expand from a static site to a social ne twork, available for all who feel inspired to create an essay or work of art; performance, song, poem, photograph or film and submit online, ” she explained.\n\n\"We plan to have an active social online networ k in 2010 to manage and present each expression of peace submitted thr oughout the world\" said Barbara Dexter, managing director of the Unit y Peace Film Project.”\nA documentary film about the entire project is in production, produced by Stephanie Slade of Slade Digital and the new Unity Film Ministry.\n“We are actively seeking sponsors, food c oncessions, and organizations wanting tables.
