I started on a classical nylon string guitar. It was my mother's. But her's was not an expensive model, or anything, and at that point I was just pecking around. I believe I was 15. Then I started playing for real at 18. Now I have been seriously playing for about 13 years. I play steel strings. But I love fingerpicking. I went to a latino restaraunt one evening, and they had a Mariachi trio playing. they were playing on steel strings as well, and they were amazing. One of them handed me his guitar, and I played for a minute, but I was no where near their calliber on spanish music. They were great. I am getting more and more into Santana, and I have some of his older stuff. I didn't know how fast he actually plays with his fingers. Anyway, have fun, brother in guitar.
