Saturday 15th August marks the 40th Anniversary of the Woodstock Festival, an epochal event that gave a name to a generation.
The spirit of Woodstock – respect for oneself, each other and the planet - is alive and flourishing in the green hills and valleys of the rainbow region, a region at the forefront of social and cultural change in Australia.
To celebrate this legacy – and all things hippie and green – we invite you to an old school ‘happening’ featuring ceremony, song and performances from the region, at Durrumbul Hall, cnr. Coopers Lane and Main Arm Rd, Mullumbimby.
The evening will kick off with Drumming up the Spirit and Welcome Ceremony at 4pm, followed by a smorgasbord of music, performance, dance and fireshows by the regions happy hippie art fraternity. Featured artists include: Soulman, Nakula, Sueno, Little Musical Elves, Kevin James & friends, Bunna Lawrie and friends, Matt Connolly & friends, Hiphop Prophetess Mothers, bellydance by Lotusdevi, plus surprise acts. The evening will end with a fireshow by Pyrodragons & friends. Mandala artwork by TrancEnhance, flags by Benny Zable, lights by Squiffy Vision & Kaleidoscope Kris, and sound by Adam Pippin will transform Durrumbul Hall into a happy hippie playground, an ode to good vibrations. Dress code: flower power.
The event is a fundraiser for “Rainbow Dreaming”, the photo-documentary on the rainbow region that’s been invited to participate in the 40th anniversary of Woodstock celebrations. See more at www.rainbowdreaming.org. Co-curator Harsha Prabhu says: “We are within sight of our goal of paying for the Woodstock exhibit. The exhibit is currently on its way to NYC to be printed. Your support for this event will ensure the rainbow region’s message of peace and sustainability gets to Woodstock and beyond.”
The day will also include a people’s call to rally against the Repco Car Rally. This event is being held in a biodiversity hotspot, without community consultation, threatening to blacken the green valleys that make up the Wollumbin caldera. Keep our caldera green! Power to the People (and the trees and creatures) Right Now! See www.norallygroup.org.
Catering is by the Rainbow Chai Tent and the No Rally Group. Donation: $10 or more if you can…
Sat 15th Aug, Durrumbul Hall. Come celebrate life in the garden in the heart of the rainbow region. Peace, love and brown rice (lots of it) for everybody!!!
