A human being is a part of a whole, called by us 'universe', a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest... a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty. - Albert Einstein

"If you want to go quickly, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together."
- African proverb

A Visit to Cairo's City of the Dead

Cairo’s infamous “City of the Dead” is a centuries old cemetery that has become home to as many as a million Egyptians during the last decades. The buildings in the cemetery are like full-blown houses and the cemetery has long had mosques, school and markets. “The historic belief in Egypt is that the cemeteries are an active part of the community and not exclusively for the dead. Egyptians have not so much thought of cemeteries as a place of the dead, but rather a place where life… Continue

The Essence of Forgiveness: A Remarkable Encounter in Heathrow

Easter is not complete without loving the one who made it possible—Judas. Forgiveness becomes possible when we transcend appearances and realize that those people who represent the Judases in our lives and those qualities within ourselves that seem to have betrayed us have been the divine process growing us into Christs. It’s all Love.

Now I've discovered a third person living on this little commune that also went to Cambodia and did some good for the people there. He bought them a metal detector so they could continue their search for land mines. One can not send them stuff through the mail without expecting that it will be stolen. This makes it very difficult to help. They produce lots of rice so the country would not be so poor if it was not so corrupt. Japan helps them a bit as they buy much of their rice.
