She didn't know what time it was, but knew it was late.
The others, tiring from the days chaos,
lay scattered on the floor like spilled dominoes in their sleep.
She, too frightened to sleep, sat next to him hugging her legs,
as they kept silent vigil over the ongoing madness.
Thoughts of how the day had played out rolled as rampantly
through her head as the furious storm passing her gaze
outside the unprotected schoolhouse windows.
"Come with me." he whispered suddenly into his young daughters ear.
Lifting her with ease, he reached out his strong hand
and enclosed it gently around hers,
providing a comfort only a father can give.
He began leading her down the dimly lit halls,
but as he pushed on the doors that
led to the outside world, he felt her hesitate.
"I'm afraid Daddy." she cried meekly.
The doors slammed loudly behind them as if to echo her protest
and fear gripped her as she realized that escape was futile.
"It'll be alright honey, trust me...
I just want you to see something."
He said trying to ease her trembling,
and led her out into the nights blackness.
Abruptly he stopped,
she looked up trustingly into his beaming face,
then following his gaze,
was amazed to see a cloudless sky filled with
millions of bright twinkling stars.
He looked down at her young face,
and with eyes that seemed to emulate the sky above,
smiled brightly and said,
"Now listen."
Doing as she was told,
she closed her eyes to the confusion she felt in her head
and realized that
she heard nothing....
absolutely nothing.
Not only had the howls of the wind ceased,
but all the sounds that had lulled her into the
sleepy depths of home sweet home were absent.
No crickets with busy legs like violins.
No frogs pleading with the rain to continue to fall.
No Cicadas preaching about the shortness of life.
It was as if she had been propelled into another dimension,
a place where there was no fear and no time...
only peace.
A hand tenderly touched her shoulder,
bringing her back to this place where she stood
hand in hand with her Father.
"It's time to go back."
Her eyes snapped open and searching his face
saw the urgency that lay there.
"What was that Daddy?"
she asked timidly as they began to walk back
into the safety of Green Acres School.
With a trembling voice
and a tear falling from his eye,
he said,
"The eye of God."

The year was 1969
The storm "Camille"
And at the tender age of 9,
as I stood hand in hand with my Daddy,
witnessing the "Eye of Camille"
I learned that there was something
much bigger than anything I could ever imagine.
This is where I go when the storms of life come...
hand in hand with the memory of my earthly Daddy revealing life's mysteries
and hand in hand with Our Father in Heaven who loves us so much.
May God bless you all as much as I feel He has blessed me in this life.
