Congratulations to SED alum, Dr. Shabbi Luthra, inaugural winner of the AALF-CRSTE Leadership & Vision Award. Shabbi was selected for this honor from a pool of 30 nominations and 11 finalists. “We have created the Leadership & Vision Award,” said Capital Regions Society for Technology in Education (CRSTE) Executive Director Walter McKenzie, “to recognize the vision and efforts Dr. Luthra models for educators everywhere. It is our hope that in showcasing Shabbi’s work, we are advocating for new strides in making education accessible an achievable for students everywhere.” Co-sponsored by the Anytime, Anywhere Learning Foundation (AALF), this award is a global recognition of leadership in trailblazing the future of education. Serving as the Director of Technology for the The American School of Bombay in Mumbai, India, Shabbi is making a difference in the way teachers teach and students learn. In nominating Dr. Luthra for this honor, Assistant Superintendent Madeleine Maceda Heide stated, “Dr. Shabbi Luthra has vision, clear plan for implementation, ability to identify resources, and unswerving passion. We have accomplished excellent high quality integration of technology because of her leadership.” As an inaugural honoree, Dr. Luthra will serve as a member of the CRSTE Advisory Board, helping to guide the organization as it continues to explore the potential for technology to improve and transform education. Shabbi is also invited to present at the October 2010 CRSTE Global Symposium, to be held completely online. The Leadership & Vision Award is an international recognition of leaders in the field of education who have implemented programs that promote the effective infusion of technology into instruction that reflects the skills, knowledge and experience that are essential for success in the 21st century global economy. Recipients of this distinguished award are education leaders who have led a successful implementation of a technology-infused education initiative, inspired staff and colleagues to successfully utilize technology in their work, engaged students as active participants in their learning, promoted a program cycle of continuous growth and improvement, provided authentic, real-world application of technology in learning, modeled collaboration across traditional local, state and regional boundaries, championed effective ubiquitous computing, and created a vision for the transformation of education in the 21st century.
