About AnnieMac

I believe that if everyone were living their true passion, their dream, the world would be a balanced and beautiful place. I try to live that example through my music, writing and performance. I am lucky enough to have band mates who feel the same.

Here’s more from our web site:
Roots rock & soul at it's best! AnnieMac has members hailing from the San Francisco Bay Area and southern Oregon. Their original music is a tasty mix of R&B riffs, soul grooves, with a rock 'n' roll edge. AnnieMac is a big regional favorite, they can't wait to break out worldwide!

Whether on the Britt Festival stage in Jacksonville Oregon, at a road house juke joint, or on the various radio stations around the country that are now playing cuts from their new CD Ignition, AnnieMac lays down a powerful Roots Rock & Soul sound that will make you want to climb aboard for the ride.

Annie's vocals mixed with her passionate talented band creates potent, timeless originals that lead straight to the heart. The result is a simmered stew of past and present, a mix of soul and body and hard pavement. To see and hear more please check out:

Native Prayer

My grandfather is the fire
My grandmother is the wind
The Earth is my mother
The Great Spirit is my father
The World stopped at my birth
and laid itself at my feet
And I shall swallow the Earth whole
when I die
and the Earth and I will be one
Hail The Great Spirit, my father
without him no one could exist
because there would be no will to live
Hail The Earth, my mother
without which no food could be grown
and so cause the will to live to starve
Hail the wind, my grandmother
for she brings loving, lifegiving rain
nourishing us as she nourishes our crops
Hail the fire, my grandfather
for the light, the warmth, the comfort he brings
without which we be animals, not men
Hail my parent and grandparents
without which
not I
nor you
nor anyone else
could have existed
Life gives life
which gives unto itself
a promise of new life
Hail the Great Spirit, The Earth, the wind, the fire
praise my parents loudly
for they are your parents, too
Oh, Great Spirit, giver of my life
please accept this humble offering of prayer
this offering of praise
this honest reverence of my love for you.

Dear Colleague
I have just returned from Geneva where the United Nations is preparing a conference to be held 20-24 April to look at current manifestations of racial discrimination and xenophobia. As a non-governmental organization in consultative status and active in human rights issues, the representatives of the Association of World Citizens participate in the preperations as well as in the conference.

In many parts of the world, there is an intensification of xenophobia - fear of the foreign- usually expressed as fear and rejection of the foreigner. We see propaganda against immigrants and the promotion of doctrines of cultural and religious superiority. Yet each situation is different. Thus, to prepare our contribution to the Conference, I would be glad to receive your experiences and analysis of the area where you live or know best concerning xenophobic currents and the rejection of cultrual diversity.

As things now stand, I think that I will stress three issues on which I have worked before, but I am open to other additions:

1) Migration. Migration for work is already an important world pattern and is likely to grow with the impact of the economic downturn. It is important to look at the ways that migrants are treated. The fear of migrants and their impact on society is an important factor in xenophobia.

2) Trafficking is an aspect and a particular form of the patterns of migration. There is a large underground economy linked to trafficking in persons. Trafficking is often treated as a police matter with little concern for the people so trafficked. Linked to the issue of trafficking is violence against women, especially women trafficked for the sex trade. While there are many forms of violence against women - often within the family - we can safely say that there is little trafficking of women for sexual purposes which is not associated with violence against women.

3) There is a need to strengthen the United Nations and regional institutions to deal with the consequences of migration and trafficking in persons.

I would be glad to receive your comments and suggestions at my personal email
wadlowz@aol.com. Thanks for your cooperation.

Rene Wadlow, Representative to the UN, Geneva, Association of World Citizens
