Looking at the Celestial Climate for October 2010...

"Along the side roads the bright gold of thin-leafed wild sunflowers gleams from its dust covering and attracts the eye as quickly as mention of easy money. Purple ironweed is diminishing in the pastures; thistles are down to their last silken tassels; goldenrod pours its heap of raw gold into the general fund."

Greetings Fellow Travelers!

October is upon the land and for those in northern climes autumn has fully arrived. The equinox that began the change of season last month marked the lessening of Sol's presence during the day... the time of Long Shadows now increases. With this switch to shorter days and longer nights the chela comes to contemplate the heavens... and as Harvest Home winds down, the luxury of time for stargazing and meditation increases.

The Winged Messenger, Mercury, opposes Jupiter on the 1st day of October and then Uranus on the 2nd in the latter degrees of Virgo. He then enters Libra on October 3rd. Expansive ideas and flights of fancy are not favored during this passage; practicality is the theme. Good cheer! This time-frame marks the cessation of whatever influence the past retrograde might have been exerting on the pilgrim's life as the shadow of that time-frame fades. Additionally, on the 3rd, the marriage of Faire Venus to the Mighty Warrior Mars (occurring in the House of the Scorpion) portends well for a balancing of energies as the Orb of the Night comes to the cycle of Newing over the next 4 days.

Dark quiet covers the Earth on the night of the 7th as the union of Sol and the Goddess (in the House of the Scales) sows seeds of harmony for the rest of this quarter. Many travelers who have been under duress for the last 6 to 8 months will see new promise and the dawn of a new era begins. Reflective of the dance of the heavens, the stressful angles and opposing forces become less frequent through the remainder of the year!

The Maiden, Venus, retrogrades on the 8th (until November 18th) and the chela is offered a period of time to refine his or her craft... those who are insightful will use this time to examine the details of their life and make appropriate changes for the coming season of growth that will emerge with the Winter Solstice. Additionally on the 8th, the Messenger (Mercury) and the Master Teacher (Lord Saturn) will embrace at the 8th degree of Libra... a day of insights for those willing to still the mind: synchronicity abounds

October 20th marks the entry of Swift Mercury into the House of the Scorpion and the pilgrim might note an inclination to analyze past conversations with others or the self... things hidden could well rise to the surface! For the stout of heart, the comet Hartley might be seen in the early morning sky if one looks to the east before the dawning of the day... those in the past who sought to understand the heavens ascribed malefic powers to events of this sort. The enlightened traveler might see the wonderment of Creation if they were to gather dust from the comet's tail~

October 21
st and 22nd are nights when the heavens are lit with the sparks of meteors as Mother Earth passes through the cosmic debris of the Orionides... while Lord Mars and Lord Neptune come to square with each other; tension between the Warrior and the Universal Dreamer could cause the pilgrim to feel undefinable anger within. Examination of thoughts of self-recrimination will clear the path for the future!

October 23rd marks the passage of Mighty Sol into Scorpio as the Orb of the Night goes full in the House of the Bull... a very intense time with emotions running deep! The chela is urged to offer 3 bowls of rice to the Universe and contemplate all they have to appreciate in life: humility and reverence for the forces entrusted to Man as Creator will ensure future moments of celebration and joy in the seeker's life!

During the month of October the Traveler will notice that colors become brighter, sounds sharper and more clear... the lessons of the past three years will come more clearly into focus. Arcturus ascends and denotes a cycle of inspiration... it betokens success through diligence. Envision a Butterfly with a third wing on it's side. The butterfly is the ancient and traditional symbol of the results of the process of spiritual rebirth. If the butterfly has three wings instead of two, a special development of an aspect of spiritual life is shown: power has been added to the normal spiritual life of the individual. The left side usually refers to the instinctual field of the consciousness, but it is also the heart's side. A new strength is shown, perhaps as yet unrealized. ~ What is implied here is that contact with the revivifying Life-force can result in the appearance of a new faculty, the use of which may not as yet be consciously comprehended. Transformation is at hand! (Adapted from The Sabian Symbols: 24 Libra)

“Know thyself! A maxim as pernicious as it is ugly. Whoever observes himself arrests his own development. A caterpillar who wanted to know itself well would never become a butterfly!”
