Event Description

The public is invited to attend ArtEsteem’s 11th annual art exhibit “Reflections of Me and My World”, on Saturday May 16, 2009 from 3pm to 6pm. The exhibit, reception, and art sale is being held at Oliver Gallery – California College of the Arts, Oakland, CA. A Super Hero Award will be given to Mario Chiodo for his passion to inspire others to take action through art. Mario says, “Art can make a difference”.
The Attitudinal Healing Connection is pleased to present this exhibition in partnership with the California College of the Arts Center for Art and Public Life. Reflections of Me and My World 2009 offer an introspective aesthetic approach to developing strategies for reinvention of our communities and ourselves. The exhibition highlights thoughtful and provocative visual and performing art created by ArtEsteem students. Giving voice to dreams, desires and concerns, these young artist are creatively engaged in a yearlong learning process, developing skills and techniques in visual arts, fashion design and cultural expression. Students use concepts from personal, local, national, global, and imaginary heroes to create their own positive characters. Their Superheroes solve problems and transform communities using nonviolent and optimistic methods.

This exhibition celebrates ArtEsteem along with the growth of its successful partnerships. AHC is proud to invite its supporters and constituents to an exhibit that exposes ArtEsteem children and youth to the California College of the Arts faculty and students and offers a respected venue for families and the public to witness the potential of young people as artists, scholars, citizens and critical thinkers. This exhibition hopes to inspire and invoke the inner spirit to become alert to essential social and environmental concerns. The event will spotlight art that expresses the critical thinking, realities, and dreams of self and society, created by children and youth ages 6 to 18. Most of the art will be for sale and students will receive 20% of the proceeds from the sale of their pieces. There will be a fashion show, presenting the work of Fashion Design students. Additionally, children in the Cultural Arts class will perform. Based on past years, the exhibit is expected to draw more than 500 patrons and significant media presence.
