Crone to the Bone

Women of maturity need not lose value over time; indeed, as crone, we gain value both inside ourselves and the larger world. Our group includes women (and some men) of any age who respect and honor the Crone archetype.

THE INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF THIRTEEN INDIGENOUS GRANDMOTHERS
For more info, their website is at: http://www.grandmotherscouncil.com/

The Grandmothers Mission Statement WE, THE INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF THIRTEEN INDIGENOUS GRANDMOTHERS, represent a global alliance of prayer, education and healing for our Mother Earth, all Her inhabitants, all the children, and for the next seven generations to come. We are deeply concerned with the unprecedented destruction of our Mother Earth and the destruction of indigenous ways of life. We believe the teachings of our ancestors will light our way through an uncertain future. We look to further our vision through the realization of projects that protect our diverse cultures: lands, medicines, language and ceremonial ways of prayer and through projects that educate and nurture our children.

When I Grow Up I Want to be an Old Woman
A takeoff of an American health care commercial. Stars over-70 actresses: Dame Julie was not yet 70 in Eloise, Dame Maggie wasn't 70 in Gosford Park, Julie Andrews, Vanessa Redgrave, Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Shirley MacLaine, Betty White, Cloris Leachman, Katharine Hepburn, Helen isn't listed. She's 63. Hats Off is a feature-length documentary profiling the beauty and eccentricities of an extraordinary woman -- 93-year-old actress Mimi Weddell -- named at age 90 one of the "50 Most Beautiful People in New York" by New York Magazine. With the style and grace of Katharine Hepburn, the smoky wit and wisdom of Dorothy Parker, and her own personal philosophy -- "rise above it" -- Mimi is truly an iconic American original, rising above the mundane and difficult confines of her daily life to reach for the stars and fulfill her dreams.

On this special day...09/09/09 I join with my sisters here in this community as well as within my heart and soul with feelings and thoughts of peace. With that energy, let us spread the love across the world as mothers do for their children and ask that it multiplies a million fold through the hearts and minds of all our sisters and brothers TODAY in an instant that will change the mind of the world to accept only love. I ask that and have faith that it shall be.

The soul of our Mother Earth

Love doesn’t triumph when
stupidity of man contained in his ignorance
does not respect our Mother Earth.

Humanity suffocates, slowly,
very slowly, in its total indifference.

Our Mother Earth, the great alive soul
warms us on her heart and
nourishes us, but we are enveloped by ignorance
we are blind and deaf to her appeal.

Maybe, are we waiting for the ill fruits of our
Mother Earth poisoning us?

Let us not being suffocated by her, we must cure
our Mother Earth with devotion, because she
nourishes us with love and energy.

I feel my spirit tremble,
while her great sick soul is suffering and
desperate because her children are ungrateful,
they haven’t respect for themselves and not even for her.

While she dies slowly and in silent
I feel her sorrow, her suffering and her tears
falling on my anguished heart.

Love triumphs only when
we respect ourselves and our Mother Earth.

Life will continue only if we wake up from the sleep of
indifference.

I feel her suffering breath, acid rain
that falls on me and
consumes my members, while she implores us
to listen to her echo of pain that flies
to our deaf ears and to our minds
away from heart.

Fellow crones, thanks to Holly and Mozilla Firefox, I am now able to see your videos and pictures. The videos are wonderful. I love the 13 indigenous grandmothers! And, Mimi Weddell. What an inspiration she is.

It is so fascinating to be witness to all this brilliance.

It is such an honor to know you all.

It was indeed this beautiful image of the crone and having read Jeannes reason for selecting this image made me cry with joy resonant.

Jeanne, and All - just a couple comments here as i've got a crisis going on --

First re: your comment on Buddha. The present Dalai Lama is the first to venture into scientific studies. His venture into this area is recorded in his book: "The Universe In An Atom," and the discovery that His Highness makes along with his scientific team composed of biologists, astrophysicists, etc., is that Buddhism is based in quantum physics. But, what science is also discovering is that the Universe is also a very exact mathematical construction.
This mathematical construction and the way events cycle every so many years was very well understood by the Mayans and was what allowed them to very accurately predict events long into the future.

Several researcher/ authors that have been writing about this recently are Gregg Braden with his latest books being "Spontaneous Healing" and "Fractal Time". Other important authors in this realm are: John Callendar, John J. Harper, John Major Jenkins, and Barbara Hand Clow, along with cellular biologist Bruce H. Lipton, M.D.

The Dalai Lama's work in the field of science is most important, for as it says in the title of his book: "The Universe in An Atom," what science is uncovering again is that as the atom is the cell, is the human, is the universe -- they are all constructed exactly alike, so if we understand one, we can then understand them all. Dr.Lipton has chosen to study the human cell, which, BTW is composed exactly like a computer chip.

Anyway as to the "look" of the Crone, my feelings are YOU, Jeanne are the perfect example of what i would picture a Crone to be -- so natural and beautiful.

Something else interesting is the book: "Going Gray" by Anne Kremer. Ms Kremer wrote this book while searching for authenticity in her own life as she began to "gray" at an early age. http://www.annekreamer.com/index.html

While my own hair is silver in front and black in the back down near the nape of my neck, it does look blonde in the photo from the sunlight coming into the room, I suppose. But i have it cut in what is called a "wash and wear" and i haven't worn any make-up for years and years preferring the all natural look.

What concerns me most in this regard goes back to my recommended reading of Deepak Chopra's book: "Ageless Body, Timeless Mind" in which he writes that there is no need for us to get old -- it is more about the way we think about ourselves as to how we age. And, in this regard, i also recommended Dr. Bruce Lipton's "Biology of Belief - The Science of How Thoughts Control Life." While it use to be thought that genes control life, it is now known by scientific research conducted by Dr. Lipton in the field of what is known as "epigenetics" that what really controls who we are is our own perception of ourselves, or of our environment. Remember that the science of biology is based on direct observation for the most part -- it is not a theoretical construct.

I agree with you re: "old wive's tales" and "old boy's network" lies. Many times, old wive's tales are proven to have an underlying science-based construct to them. But let's also differentiate between those men that compose the old boy's network and the many wonderful "heart-centered" men that are out there today giving support to women, and the difference in the way they think about the world. And, it was the Inquisition that sought to brutally torture and put to death these sensitive types of men along with the approximately six million women who were put to death by boiling them alive or burning them at the stake. .

Mary Rose,
The decadence subject came up, in jest, several comments below yours, started by Violette, of course… claiming she innocently began the thong and granny panties discussion which then turned into the longest discussion thread on AOAND… and growing! Oh, what a web we weave when first we discuss clothing to cover below the waist regions…LOL

As to old wives tale… that is yet another spin put out by the aging out patriarchy that developed such terms to demean and diminish women… especially old women. Obviously some of the “old wives tales” of yore have little truth under the lens of today’s knowledge body… but the same could be said about the “old husband’s tales” – think back to the atrocities of old patriarchal based science – bloodletting for example. Yikes!

Science is a methodology… that’s all - a methodical data collecting, analyzing, hypothesizing empirical means of discovering truth through deduction and logical means. It is not a “science that underlies all of life”… it is a man-made, contrived method designed to make sense of the universe we live in.

I’m one of the many who seriously doubts we’ve ever walked on the moon by mechanical and scientific means… one of the ones who thinks it was a monstrous deception and money drain designed to draw attention away from the ongoing Cold War… nuff said, otherwise I’ll start by going back thru history and mentioning the series of mass deceptions that have brought humanity to this place of confusion so predominant that the #1 cause of death in our youth is suicide.

The greatest scientist ever in the field of human consciousness was Buddha. Modern scientists are still trying to catch up with what he discovered thousands of years ago.

It doesn’t really matter how the world perceives crone… what matters is how crone perceives crone. And if changes are to be made about the world’s perception of crone… then it is best made by the crone community… the empowerment of the crone voice and volition of the crone community to participate in the world is a job to be done only by the crones who can and will.

As to the choice of image used on the crone site… I think she’s beautiful. As far as her gray hair goes… well, gray happens… and gravity has its way with our bodies. In my search for an image, I did happen across some images of crones with sagging skin and hard lumps of silicone in their chest and faces pulled so tight they looked inhuman and quantities of make-up to rival a theatrical actress… It matters not to me what choices others make to stave off the appearance of the natural aging process or what steps are taken to glamorize our physical vehicle – but I did consciously choose an image that reflected the beauty of a natural crone.

IMHO… the glamorization or putting on of an artificial appearance is keeping us “down on the floor.” It pains me to remember when I was a teenager, so insecure that I would not think about leaving the house or be seen without my make-up. …not saying I don’t like to occasionally vamp it up, paint the town and my face… but when I do, its not out of insecurity… but just for the fun of it. I was a theatre arts major for a few years – I wanted to overcome my crippling shyness – and I learned a lot about “putting it on.” But I am and always have been a seeker of truth and authenticity.

Helena Blavatsky wrote a book over a hundred years ago called “Glamour: A World Problem.” …I think she was right on in her observations and conclusions.

As to having a red hot rock and roll momma as our ‘symbol’… oh yeah, I’d love to have Chrissy Hinds, Etta James, Joan Baez or Stevie Nicks lend themselves to the cause. But in fact, they are one of us… also struggling to overcome a system that called our herbalism, energy healing and bodywork – ‘old wives tales.’
