Art, Science and Consciousness

As a mediamaker, artist, and student of consciousness studies, I have been especially intrigued with the juxtaposition of these three arenas of the human experience and how they effectively intersect. I recently wrote an article for Shift magazine, which is published by IONS: Institute of Noetic Science. IONS was founded by astronaut Edgar Mitchell, and one of the leading organizations engaging in the exploration and study of consciousness. The article is called "Visions from the Techo-Mystic Edge" and in it I explore concepts around transformational art and media. Ed Lantz contributed to the article with several examples of innovations emerging at the edge of invention.

Having come out of the mainstream studios with over 25 years of experience working alongside several of the industry's top creators of narrative-based content in both television and feature films, I have found the exploration into more expressive and emergent content genres a wonderful discovery. Visual driven music, like that found on The Harmony Channel, is a tremendously powerful artform and one that transcends language. A new global symbolic artform which is all very exciting! The domes offer new platforms for immersive experiences and I believe that these modern temples of tranformation truly have the potential to engage and inspire audiences at profoundly deep levels.

Finding a venue for transformative and consciousness raising format media is the big question of our times. The Full Dome Show arena is quietly growing and expanding beyond the science and astronomy that it has been known for. This emerging medium is presently explored by such artists as Laurie Anderson; as a performance/visual arts/immersive experiential medium. I am presently directing a breakthrough show in the Full Dome world "Tales of the Maya Skies" (Will release in November 2009), which will push the envelope of science into Myth and astrology and bring heart into what was otherwise a very academic platform. Utilizing 3D digital animation with software such as Maya and After Effects, this format is easy to mount in the dome. The immersiveness and 360 degree format is perfect for mind and heart expanding content. Projecting in 2K up to 4K formats, keeping it in a digital file also makes this affordable to produce. The Domes are located with Museums and Science Museums, which attracts children through seniors with the intention of learning and education themselves.
I am very interested in continuing and stepping up the content in this new medium, and offer my experience and knowledge in supporting any projects that would open doors for our fellow artists and content developers. Our team is now developing projects for next year, and welcome ideas and co-ventures that reflect your direction and intentions.
