I'm thankful for the legacy of those passed on that still live with us, in particular the family and friends that have served in the US Military (whether they liked it or not).

I am thankful to live near one of the last uninhabited islands left on the East Coast - Waites Island. I call it the "Isle of Light". On may page., I have a map, that shows the "New River" Inlet. (Actually Little River Inlet), near the "N" of New is a white area that is surrounded by water, that is the Isle of Light! It is the best place for protection of Loggerhead Turtle Nests (see photos on my page), because there is no lights to confuse the baby turtles when they "boil" emerge from the nests. Also, Coastal Carolina U. has 1/3 of island for Marine Research, and lead us volunteers in protecting the nests. The island is in S.C., but N.C. is close to the inlet. i promote biodiesel which would clear the ocean of the toxic effects of fossil fuels. And I am thankful, that this adminstration support these greening efforts. This year they were selling leases for offshore windmills, while just last year, politicians were trying to sell leases for oil wells. Matt, on top of the nest of large turtle we called "Barnacle Betty", is a commercial fisherman, who knows that green efforts will help cleanse the ocean which is good for fish, turtles, porpoises, whales and his children's future.

I'm grateful to live so close to Jackson Perkins so I can enjoy their wonderful varieties of roses. I'm also grateful for a glimpse of roses from the other side of the world from Silja and the beautiful photo of the orchids from Marinspin.

First, thank you Dr. Mike, you always have very endearing stories:

WORD FOR THE DAY
Wednesday, May. 20 (gratefulness.org)

Gratitude can turn a meal into a feast,
a house into a home,
a stranger into a friend.
It makes sense of our past,
brings peace for today,
and creates a vision for tomorrow.

I remember going to a restuarant for my neice's high school graduation luncheon. My son was almost 3 years old, and we were being served by this very pregnant waitress. She noticed that he would not give daddy any of his dessert, and had gone into some sort of tantrum. Being the experienced mother she said: "Sharing is caring."

Everyone at the table started rolling over in laughter, and my son's dispostition improved quite a bit from us laughing at him. To this day, many in the family, including my son, adopted that mantra. It's not only an inside joke, it's just a better way to live.

Today I am grateful for being connected, and not having to do anything alone anymore.

Best for today,
Mike
