Descent of Inanna

a photo from a life-changing theatre project i had the honor of being a part of. the play was an original telling of the 5000 year old sumerian myth called: the descent of inanna.

inanna is the goddess of light and life and her twin sister, ereshkigal, is the goddess of the underworld. together they bring sumerian civilization to life.

when people begin to reject ereshkigal's realm of darkness and death, they bring suffering upon themselves and the earth. inanna journeys to the underworld to re-unite with her sister, restoring balance to herself and the earth.
