My first time back since I joined a couple of weeks ago. I haven't figured out exactly yet what this site is all about. I joined out of a desire and need to be part of a group of other progressive, peace-minded individuals, who are compassionate and care about social and economic justice. I find it so hard to engage my friends, family and acquaintances in honest, open discussion about issues I really care about. I have tried using Facebook to share my thoughts and information, only to be derided by one of my "friends" and for the most part ignored. I really don't get why more people in my community don't care more about the people of this world who are suffering and about affecting real social change. I have a vision of our country and the world that could be so much better, but have no idea how to do anything about it. I hope this can be a forum for open discussion and sharing of ideas.

"The power of the world always works in circles. The sky is round, and I have heard that the earth is round like a ball, and so are all the stars. The wind in its greatest power - whirls. Birds make their nests in circles, for theirs is the same religion as ours. The sun comes forth and goes down in a circle, and the moon does the same. Both always come back to where they were. The life of man is a circle from childhood to childhood. And so it is in everything where power moves."
