We’d like to show the side of the world you don’t normally see on television.
Brien Coleman is an artist whose creative sensibilities came about naturally, but he did study art and film history at Columbia University and Lacoste School of the Arts in France. Originally from Miami, he lived in New York City for more than twenty years, where he was a fixture of the Downtown scene, creating installations and theme nights in the city’s hottest clubs, as well as writing and illustrating for the East Village Eye. In 2002 he moved to Taos, NM and points beyond until he returned to Miami to focus on the the production of two books Enigmatix One and
Enigmatix Two.
He has focused on collage art, which is a natural expression for him - an adventure and visual safari.
Long fascinated with composite, dream-like imagery, he took up scissors, paper and glue at an early age. He has derived inspiration from the iconography of many mystical and cultural traditions: from Pop to the Surreal, to the Byzantine, Mayan and Egyptian, as well as Hindu and Buddhist pantheons. Over the years he has amassed vast portfolios of images that he has reconfigured into intriguing, intricate tableaux. He creates unique, magical vistas into which the viewer can step and ‘experience’ – in which pictorial elements play dramatically off one another. His work is an invitation to visit the artist’s trans-dimensional, flamboyant and imagined worlds.
