“Telling Amy’s Story” Wins Prestigious CINE Golden Eagle Award

“Telling Amy’s Story,"  a documentary film that is the centerpiece of a public service media initiative addressing the issue of domestic violence, was honored with a prestigious CINE Golden Eagle Award for excellence in storytelling, production value, artistry and purpose. The documentary narrates the events leading to the death of Amy Homan McGee to raise awareness about domestic violence and encourage victims to seek help. “Telling Amy’s Story” was produced by Penn State Public Broadcasting and funded by the Verizon Foundation. 

The CINE Golden Eagle awards, which honor excellence in professional and independent works, are recognized internationally as symbols of the highest production standards in film and television production. Since its founding in 1957, CINE has been dedicated to discovering, rewarding, educating and supporting established and emerging talent in film and video.

Since “Telling Amy’s Story” premiered last May at the Newseum in Washington DC, it has aired on 341 public television stations, screened at more than 160 communityevents, and is being used as a training tool and discussion catalyst by more than 500 organizations, including 60 colleges and universities. The documentary builds on a successful domestic violence prevention program for faculty and staff at Penn StateUniversity. The training program and the documentary were funded with supportfrom the Verizon Foundation.
