I’ve had lots of feedback from a post I wrote last week called How to Improve Your CSR Report.
One person observed that “the problem seems to be that to report you need to count things, yet much of what and organisation delivers into society cannot be measured this way.”
Even most non-profit organization report their social ROI based on number of people served, beds in hospitals, brochures distributed, etc. The real value of social organizations is not how many services…

The old joke goes: “If ‘pro’ is the opposite of ‘con’, then what’s the opposite of progress? Answer: Congress! “
That might be true often enough, but for Arizona 5th district Congressman Harry Mitchell that’s not the case. His district, which includes the Phoenix area, is leading by example. They’ve built a new, 20 mile light rail system in the past year, and here in the Valley of the Sun, a solar paradise, Congressman Mitchell is promoting solar energy. He asserts that cities can…

At an age when most performers have hit their peak and may already be on a downward spiral, one rising star has captivated the world — not only with her phenomenal voice, but with her story.
Susan Boyle shot to stardom just before turning 48.
We generally groom our superstars as youth: usually a new name enters our consciousness when the performer is between 18-22, sometimes…

Time is priceless, yet it costs us nothing
You can do anything with it, yet you can not own it.
You can spend it,
However you can not keep it.
Once you have lost it there is no getting it back
It is just gone

This is my perspective, but I feel at least we are all sitting at a round table, all sitting with the same bottle, the same block of cheese, at the same time, the perspectives may be different but the thought is from the table. Our friend here sits east, she is north, I sit west with my face to the door and of course the chair to the south is waiting for you! We all see the same objects just a little different from each other. From her point the cheese is blocked by the bottle, from your point…

Si Se Puede*
(For my Uncle and Father)
We heard stories of men grasping axles to ride
under trains, “coyotes” who stuffed men into trucks,
locked the doors into an airless ovens, bodies found near the river.
They came, on foot, twelve to a pickup, square, brown Indios
whose lightening hands moved across fields like blizzards,
clearing orchards and fields for a few coins a bushel.
Evenings, the ranchers would come. Truck…

Years ago a popular television commercial featured a maternal manicurist who would soften her customers' hands in Palmolive dishwashing liquid. The theme was both arresting and funny. The patron, upon learning the contents of the cuticle-softening dish, would jerk her hand away and gasp: "Dishwashing liquid?" Madge would calmly pat her hand back down, reassuring, "It's Palmolive!"

I was ruminating on how such a commercial might play in the…

It is such a joy to know there are so many beautiful hearts beating on this planet and such a joy to know there are so many seeking- not to get lost in the difficulties -but to find a more peaceful and loving way through them..I have been unable to work at my usual job for the last 3 months but have been blessed by the joy of being able to stop and look at my life for the blessing that it is..

"We've all heard about an illness in Central Africa called sleeping sickness. What we should know is that a similar disease exists that attacks the soul. It's very dangerous because the early stages often go unnoticed. At the first sign of indifference or lack of enthusiasm take note! The only preventive against this disease is the realization that the soul suffers, suffers greatly, when we force it to live superficially. The soul loves all things beautiful and deep." Paul Coelho, The Winner…

I want you to know that I am a survivor of domestic violence; not physical violence but emotional violence… what I call “micro-wounding.” Micro-wounding are those small wounds to the psyche. The silencing, demeaning, ridiculing, belittling of what is important to you, stepping on your dreams, the behavior that attempts to make you smaller or keep you down – micro-wounding is an epidemic in our society. It exists in the halls of corporate America and in our homes. Children micro-wound as part of…

Nothing in life is to be feared,
it is only to be understood.
Now is the time to understand more,
so that we may fear less.

~~~A Spiritual Cruise~~~
In order to escape from this never ending battle between---
Now and Change---
I decided to take a much needed visit to---
My Inner Sanctuary.
It looks nothing like an inner sanctuary should look, despite my best efforts.
I've even tried to change it around a bit---
But---
It still looks just like a beach.
It's a different reality, this beach retreat that is within me.
There are times I find myself suddenly…
