We’d like to show the side of the world you don’t normally see on television.
The Hopi and Navajo make their drums from indigenous Cottonwood trees that rot out in the center. Oddly enough the resonant quality was much higher than expected. I believe it is due to the interlacing fibers in the wood. Both drums were cut from the same log, and at one time were joined at the legs. The similar shape of both drums is a fluke of nature. I doubt I could find another log section that would duplicate this effect. I have been carving 37 years, but didn't have to learn how. This is my gift. It is what I was given. I am grateful.
