I remember the Garden State Arts Center show in New Jersey with Phish...i think it was in '89. Carlos & Trey played Song of The Wind together...one of my personal favorite songs...T"

Many thanks to my old friend and funder John Steiner for this timely post directly below.
Yes, putting away the flags is a big step towards turning around the steady four-decade degradation of the US (and most other nation-states).
Of course the best replacements for flags are bioregional banners. I designed one with somebody back in the '70s and we made an aperture for it so viewers would always see the "live" natural world as part of the image.
Correspondingly, the best replacements for nation-states are bioregions. Evolving from nation-states to bioregions is evolving from:
1--contrabiosis to symbiosis.
2--human chauvinism (anthropocentrism) to all species, all our relations, all sentient beings (biocentrism).
3--centralized monetary systems (e.g., US dollars) to local ones (e.g., Ithaca [NY] HOURS) as a transition to discontinuing money altogether.
4--centralized competitive economies to localized cooperative ones.
5--toxic to clean energy.
6--mercenary pre-announced activism to volunteer we-hope-you-like-surprises activism.

Music is looked upon as something serious and holy, designed to purify the feelings of the people. The ancient kings made music in order to honor merit, and offered it with splendor to the Supreme Deity inviting their ancestors to be present. In the Temple folks drew near to God with music and pantomimes. The Ancestors were invited to these divine rituals as guests of the ruler of heaven and as representatives of humanity in the higher regions. This uniting of the human past with the Divinity in revering his ancestors with solemn moments of spiritual inspiration established the bond between God and man. Our first Earthdance and Theater.
