how about a prayer - for the meeting on the 24th hosted by Obama?

e special session of the Security Council, which is to be chaired by Obama on Sep. 24, will also be attended by political leaders from the 14 other members states - including the other four permanent members of the Council, namely China, Britain, France and Russia.

highly recommend you get the film/dvd from www.peaceoneday.org to show as an event foundation. great film, great story behind the background of this day being made official...all because of one person's dream and effort: Jeremy Gilley

We've done some lovely events here in Lansing, MI over the years to honor this day. It's a great opportunity to either go it alone with your group or organization or do a coop event with other like minded people. My teacher, Prem Rawat, has celebrated this day in various ways over the years. Here's a short clip from a few years back:

September 21 2009 - International Day of Peace:

Let's honor the history of the day and the people that helped create the environment for such a day. It iwill fascinate those that care to learn of it.

perhaps on this day we not only honor the work of those that spent years to have the day named - and do a TV story documentary - to shine light on the process.

for those that are unaware - it was Dr. Young Seek Choue of Korea that laboured 7 years to finally get the day approved at the UN - using the Costa Rica Government as a tool in the process. Dr. Choue wrote a book on it. it is a great story of fortitude, strategy and grit. and a genuine intention for Peace. Dr Choue might be invited to play some role (if still alive) or certainly his son - who is the President of Kyung Hee University. I am pretty sure (99%) the UN and the world has never properly honored Dr Young Seek Choue. . We would also interview Dr Rodrigo Caruso Odio (assuming he is still alive) from Costa Rica.

He has some great Peace inspiring stories -

Our story ought to also reflect on the importance of several UN initiatives - the MDG's, the UNGC, the Earth Charter - and another document that has remained hidden from the consciousness of America - the Consumer Protection Act of 1985 - such document approved by consensus at the United nations and hidden from the purview pf teh American court system, businesses, and organizational behaviours in the United States - IMHO - Many of the problems we fae today is because we havbe ignored this Act in 1985 which in my biased opinion was the result of the global reaction to the Presentation of the Planetary Initiative for the World We Choose - a 1983 Think Tank - that presented the details of the Mega Crisis that we were going to be facing if we did nothing.

We also bring to mind the extraordinary life of Donald Keys whose foresight for the PIanetary initiative for the World we Choose - also wondering if he is alive to have his work recognized and honored. - these people set the world stage for the development of what we called Cultural Creatives (Ray, Anderson) and now referred to by Hawkens as the Blessed Unrest.

About International Day of Peace, September 21
International Day of Peace Logo

The International Day of Peace ("Peace Day") provides an opportunity for individuals, organizations and nations to create practical acts of peace on a shared date. It was established by a United Nations resolution in 1981 to coincide with the opening of the General Assembly. The first Peace Day was celebrated in September 1982.

In 2002 the General Assembly officially declared September 21 as the permanent date for the International Day of Peace.

By creating the International Day of Peace, the UN devoted itself to worldwide peace and encouraged all of mankind to work in cooperation for this goal. During the discussion of the U.N. Resolution that established the International Day of Peace, it was suggested that:

"Peace Day should be devoted to commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples…This day will serve as a reminder to all peoples that our organization, with all its limitations, is a living instrument in the service of peace and should serve all of us here within the organization as a constantly pealing bell reminding us that our permanent commitment, above all interests or differences of any kind, is to peace."

Since its inception, Peace Day has marked our personal and planetary progress toward peace. It has grown to include millions of people in all parts of the world, and each year events are organized to commemorate and celebrate this day. Events range in scale from private gatherings to public concerts and forums where hundreds of thousands of people participate.

Anyone, anywhere can celebrate Peace Day. It can be as simple as lighting a candle at noon, or just sitting in silent meditation. Or i
