I don't know about everybody else. But even in silence, I HEAR music. Many times it is the inspirational music of those who also are traveling the similar path. Constantly it was Coltrane's "A Love Supreme", or "My Favorite Things." These are inspired works from enlightened people to me.

Today I saw a photo of one of my meditation classmates and it INSTANTANEOUSLY brought back this rendition from Alice Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders (Again thanks Silja for the embedding tip)......

Enjoy----

Another example of Silja's brilliance in replying to "Ten Days of Silence..." above:

There is one thing that I discovered lately, although it may seam a bit unusual. But it still works very well to get the feeling of unconditional love to yourself more easily while starting the meditation. It is just that we're so used to set so many goals and have so many expectations to ourselves due to our everyday active lives. That's why it becomes hard to enter immediately to the deeper state of consciousness and to fully accept ourselves the way we are.
Today I found that it can be so easy to take ourselves the same way as when meeting the newborn baby. To observe the inner nature just the same way. Without any expectations for what it should become, but instead the feeling of gratitude and acceptance to the way it is and just by letting the inner smile shine. This I've found also useful when staying in meditation for a longer time, as it makes it so much easier to stay focused and not to be disturbed by what comes from outside. That is the inner silence.

With love, Silja

Meditation for the Mother Earth.
At first to get focused on the inner flame inside of the heart and deep breathing. When breathing in imagine the white light getting more deeper and from the bigger to smaller and going through the inner flame, (although it is endless, it does not have some particular starting or ending point), then take a little stop and holding the breath, but this should be very soft. When breathing out spreading the white light from smaller to greater and also through the inner flame inside of the heart. It can also be imagined that when breathing through our heart flame, it also burns and removes the blocks and how it becomes as a fuel for the light.
When having enough feeling inside, then imagine being one with the heart center of the planet Earth and using the white light while breathing in and out.
Thank you.

Thanks Dear Silja, about your complimentary words about the "Dhamma Brothers Documentary". Equally good and expansive is the book Letters from the Dhamma Brothers. It can be ordered online from the Pariyatta Press www.pariyatta.org. Also, I recommend Vipassana Meditation The Art of Living as taught by S. N. Goenka by William Hart

But I'd need to have a vacation before I can give some good comments in Vipassana Meditation, as I have never been meditating for ten days. But the meditation itself reaches beyond the time and so we can compress or extend the effect of time. That is something of what I tried to say with it when I said that it matters the how deep we get.

The new group is really great and I'm being grateful for it. And Ron, I really love seeing your shining face and the heart giving out sparkles of light as well. In my opinion more important than how much time we spend each day for it is the how deep we get when practicing. But yes, the longer period is great as it would be quite impossible for me at least to have the mind interrupting and jumping around like a bunch of rabbits after meditating for hours, :-). When I have the free days, then I can spend more time than on working days, as I have really long working days. But yet I do have more free days as well and it really helps with getting more focused and much done, even if I have much to do. The meditation just helps to find what is most important and gives the power to be much more effective. With love, -Silja

Well, Silja, I am sure you are writing below of the new Vipassana Meditation Group, and I am so glad to see your shining face over there too. I have never heard it called a "timed mediation" before, though they do recommend two sittings a day for an hour each. I have not reached that goal yet, though I hope to... May All Beings Be Happy! ron
