Well, "don't most meditations teach not to pay attention to physical sensations?" This is a rhetorical question, as I experienced the great teacher of "Sensory Awareness" Charlotte Selver, when she was in her 90's. Her 70 something yr. old husband, Charles Brooks, put out a wonderful book by the same name honoring her profound meditative teaching. This was over 20 years ago.
I have just seen some people looked surprised when I mention that Vipassana is partially based on "observing physical sensations." And thanks, Dr. Mike for answering me personally.
However, I would like to hear other opinions. and the blessings be,ron

If we have been building ourselves up inside, the storm outside does not get us to the ground or too much off the ground. That is the responsibility. We do know what we do and why we do it.

Welcome back, Drmike, thanks for posting your experience, as I am looking forward to my ten dayer at end of July. Correct me if I am wrong, but don't most meditations teach not to pay attention to physical sensations? peace, ron

Hey folks,

I'm glad to be back and was astounded by the tool given to me by the Vipassana retreat. A real way to tap into the unconscious by observing physical sensations. To stand in indifference to aversions, and cravings, while generating wisdom from within ourselves is an incredible task. To live within this moment is a miraculous task.

Best,
Mike

Yeah, the meditation can create different feelings. After some hours of the meditation it made me feel not as usual. On this time it did not calm down but instead created excitement and made me feel alert. I tried to figure it out what it is, and then I understood that this was the inspiration. So the meditation does not work the same all the time, even when it's being done in a similar way.

:-) I've tried to use some meditation techniques when being at work as well, but it's really difficult to concentrate at two things at the same time ( I need to communicate with the people constantly at work). I tried to direct the blood circulation, but it still takes time to learn to do the both and to stay focused. I had some pain in the tonsil area, that's why I wanted to do it. Anyway, it was fun to do it!

Thanks Greg & Silja for your positive thoughtful feedback. Meditation, if it does not always take me into a feeling of oneness and timelessness, it always seems to take me to mindfulness. Especially after my AM meditation, I find myself going from a stretching yoga dance to getting things done around the house while staying in the moment. It is a great way to start off the day. Ron

Ron,
Your story that you shared with us all is just so amazing. I love to watch the stars as well, each time they are visible I just look upon and create the feeling of the connection. I do know the timeless feeling too, at first it was appearing for some periods of time but now I feel like this all the time. Like the time does not exist at all, guess I've got used to feel this way. Sometimes it seams to be strange, as there is no difference if it is the day or night. Yes, but to feel the full power of the nature and limitless connection with everything like you described in your story - that is remarkable! Thank you so much.
