The vegan ideal, as a philosophy which embraces the highest of ethics - non-violence, justice and empathy with the innocent - continues to be marginalized by our society.

But those who recognize the far-reaching effects of this paradigm shift know how powerful the rewards can be.

No matter how strong the current opposition is, it will soon have to be accepted that vegan is the way of the future. Only by living the vegan ideal can we address all at once the many, seemingly different issues that are crippling our civilization and the planet.

It is becoming increasingly clear that the survival of our species, and perhaps even life as we know it, is dependent upon our learning the very lessons of empathy, responsibility and self-control that the vegan ideal embodies, that our society seems so reluctant to embrace.

The vegan solution contains within it the power to solve the biggest problems we are facing, on every level from personal to planetary.

The vegan ideal is nothing less than the next evolutionary step for humankind.

We must embrace the ethic of non-violence if we are to evolve…

And we must evolve, if we are to survive.

From The Vegan Solution.

The current cultural paradigm that considers animals to be the property of humans is a fundamental flaw in the fabric of our society. This fallacy is at the root of all animal abuse.

The industries that use animals will have no place in a peaceful future, no matter how 'humanely' the animals are treated.

Animals, whether human or otherwise, are entitled to live their lives in peace.

"We are not predatory by nature, but we've been taught that we are, in the most potent way possible: we've been raised from birth to eat like predators. We've thus been initiated into a predatory culture and been forced to see ourselves at the deepest levels as predators. Farming animals is simply a refined and perverse form of predation in which the animals are confined before being attacked and killed. It doesn't stop with animals, however. As we all know in our bones, there is a predatory quality to our economic system, and competition underlies all our institutions. We prey upon each other."

Get more vegan choices where you shop, if you don't have easy access to farmer's organic market.

I use a soy cheese every day and when my Kroger store stopped carrying it, I e-mailed them a complaint. It took a couple of tries but, I have my soy cheese back - grin.

You might just tell your Safeway, Ralphs, Kroger or whatever that you want more vegan choices or ask them to carry a particular product. They operate on such thin margins, they may just respond. My Kroger called and left message that the cheese was in! I don't particularly like them but they came through for me this time.

I just wrote my thoughts but hope they show up - I am so proud to be part of this group and share my insights with you all. Blessed are the Truth Seekers and the Sublime as we guide ourselves towards Divinity. May we all rest in the knowing of how our lives can be healed by what we put in our sacred bodies. Stephanie

Welcome Denise! Congratulations on 38 years of veganism. Wow.

What was the name of the book you read? Was it Jay Dinshah's book, Out of The Jungle?

Dear Vegan Friends,
In the spirit of Inspiration and Positive Intention, I share with you that I've been a Vegan since 1971. I simply read a book about ahimsa, non-violence to any living creature and I never turned back.
It also showed the unhealthy effects of alcohol, that too was eliminated. Once these choices were made, the state mind/body/spirit consciousness soared.
Purity become a new Power on all levels.
And in a small way, it contributed to the non-proliferation of violence to animals and the environment, both physically and psychically. All these factors contribute to more Peace on a personal and transpersonal global level.
SO, hopefully this inspires others to be encouraged in this noble endeavor.
Much Light & Love!
Blessings,

I have just returned from the ten day silent Vispassana Retreat - possibly the best thing I have ever done. Jeanne, don't you think that the teaching is that "the body is the temple of God"?. The food was delicious all vegetarian and easy to leave out the things to make it vegan. I am going back as a server, and will copy the recipes.
It is a fairly new center down in Georgia, but it is going well, and I expect to help getting it into prison system here in S.C.
May all beings be happy, ron

Hi all,

I'm very excited to see this group growing!

I wanted to make an announcement that I recently released an article on Care2.com that explains my feelings about the current animal protection movement, and why I feel that vegan is the necessary moral baseline.

Please read it:

My favorite is Endangered Species extreme dark chocolate 88%! It is very rich, a bit bitter and sweetened with unfiltered beet sugar... simply delicious and they donate 10% of their profits to help support species, habitat and humanity! Of course, there are many other vegan and raw chocolate options out there these days. I like to make my own raw chocolate treats as well... it's fun, healthy and delicious!
