Language Partners

Communication is the key to all relationships. If, like me, you would like to learn other languages and can partner others in learning your Mother Tongue, please join us... otherwise, I'll feel a bit stupid trying to teach myself Esperanto

Like Ron, english is my only language. I would love to partner with anyone to learn their native tongue and any other language that they are fluent in. I am also working on being a fluent communicator. I am a good listener and will trade that skill if anyone needs someone to listen to them.

I was looking forward to contacting a debt counselor and explaining that I owe Swahili but, unfortunately, I only have English and West Country dialect.

I think I might anyway just to see what they would advise... though I think I can guess.

you crack me up ron! ... i'm glad to share languages, no need to feel you owe me anything :) things have a way of balancing out in life anyways.
as for a self-talk language, swiss german is highly recommended, outside of switzerland (and in parts within it) nobody will ever know what it is that i'm muttering to myself. ;)

Hi Caudia. I'm delighted you joined. I'm certainly up for learning German but as you are already fluent in English, I don't have a language to teach you in return... so I decided to make one up. It won't be much use for communicating but you'll be able to talk to yourself anywhere in the world and no one will know what you're saying.

Er... actually, I'm beginning to see flaws in that idea already...

Maybe I could owe you a language :o)

hi all - i'm a Swiss native (Swiss German being my mother tongue). I'm fluent in German, French, Italian and English... French and Italian are a bit rusty, but I'm sure I could pull it out.
In my journeys through learning languages, I came to the conclusion, that the best way to learn a language is to start with words, like a child learning to speak (the point and grunt phase), then make small sentences (2-3 words) then go from there and add more words and make more complex sentences. Best not to worry at all about mistakes, every child will have endearing "funny stuff" they say - so should every learner of a new language. Try not to translate to your mother tongue too much, so that new neural pathways can be formed straight in the new language. Best to immerse where you can hear the language spoken or sung - (Youtube may be your friend here)...
I'm offering to partner up with those of you who wish to learn any of the languages that I have learned in this lifetime.

Hi Christopher. Thanks for joining the group.

Actually, I'm beginning to think everyone is here for moral support :o)

So how about it, folks? Can we hear from someone who wants to learn a language so we can figure out how to do this?

Hello Ron... Thanks for the invite... I am more joining just to give moral support as a linguist is my shortcoming... In humor, I say I do not know English and took American as a second language and didn't do real well in that call either... Ha Ha.. Much Luck and Success with you group... Communication Is The Heartbeat Of Humanity! Christopher

OK artEmi. We'll swap English for Hellenics. Somebody has to make a start so we will. I'll message you and we'll decide how we want to do this.

Sue, I shouldn't worry about Esperanto; it never really took off as an International language. I think there are more people who speak Klingon. As long as you're up for learning a new language and helping others with English. I think those who want to learn English are going to have a wide choice of partners

Hi Xt@r. I tried to pronounce "Xt@r" and my brain sent me an error message and shut down. I had to wait for my wife to boot me up again :o)

I am certainly keen to learn Greek and I think you may find yourself with a number of students... in return, of course, you will have a number of teachers.

Hi. I'm Ron and my Mother Tongue is English. I would like to learn any new language on offer in return for help with English. I do not speak any other languages (yet)
