Afghanistan: why are we still there and how do we get out?

Apparently, the USA is presiding over the largest poppy harvest in history.

Our new peace loving President seems to think that we need to kill everyone there to have peace.

Am I wrong?

I have a dear friend, refugee from Kabul who lost a leg on land mine fighting for his country when Russia first invaded and Taliban sprang up. He tells me how corrupt the people the US put into power now really are. It's a mess.

It's almost never-ending. Obama is caught in the quagmire, and it's just what it is. He is only one person. It's disappointing though, I agree.

Why the heck is the USA in Afghanistan anyway? I know the reasons the USA is pretending to be there for and those reasons are just plain pretzel logic. The USA gave the Taliban the money and the power to get started in the first place so none of it really makes sense.

We are there to help with the poppies! (Think exotic fun in a far away land). Natural gas might have something to do with it. Somehow, the military industrial Matrix got people to believe that we are leaving Iraq and surging in Afghanistan. This to find, Osama, the boogie man who supposedly isnt in Pakistan either, so if we find him (we won't) we could torture a confession out of him at Gitmo, because even though Joe, "clean coal" Biden, says we need to find him, he didnt explain how he knew this and how exactly this is supposed to be better than the Bush administration policy or lack thereof. Personally I think that anyone that says coal is clean should also explain why up is down and good is bad. To think it all started with a gift of a few surface to air missiles to Tim Osman ( CIA code name for Osama). Personally I dont think the Bushes and Bin Ladins should continue doing business and both be members of the Carlyle Group. Doesn't seem ethical to me but that doesn't seem to bother anyone else for some reason.

Of course, in a world where most people are completely and totally insane, this is all perfectly normal. I'm actually hoping to get rescued by aliens. ;-) Just keep me the hell away from the Tee Vee or I might also become a mindless brain eating zombie!

Kind of Texas idiots do Wizard of Oz and Dorothy kind of thing and the CIA brings home poppy snacks to smoke inject and sell so the masses won't have a revolution... while Bin Laden hides out in a Ritz Carlton in Paris eating bon bons while he is on kidney dialysis if he is even still alive. Just another episode of Dallas and a rerun at that. I am starting to see cracks in the "NEW" season already and this Afghanistan episode is a glaring red flag. The whole "We need to step things up in Afghanistan and send more troops over there" is just another crock. Don't more people see it yet?

Obama to Send 17,000 More Troops to Afghanistan

WASHINGTON - President Obama will send an additional 17,000 American troops to Afghanistan this spring and summer in the first major military move of his presidency, White House officials said on Tuesday.

The increase would come on top of 36,000 American troops already there, making for an increase of nearly 50 percent. In issuing the order, Mr. Obama is choosing a middle ground, addressing urgent requests from commanders who have been pressing for reinforcements while postponing a more difficult judgment on a much larger increase in personnel that the commanders have been seeking.

In a written statement issued by the White House on Tuesday evening, Mr. Obama said that deteriorating security in Afghanistan demands "urgent attention and swift action" to address a problem that has not received the strategic attention, direction and resources it urgently requires."

White House officials said that 8,000 Marines from Camp Lejeune, N.C., will deploy in the next few weeks, aiming to be on the ground in Afghanistan by late spring, while an Army brigade from Fort Lewis, Wash., composed of 4,000 soldiers, will deploy in the summer.

Even though many were not aware till recently, the effort to send more troops to Afghanistan was underway before Obama took office. My Marine nephew was informed last fall that he could a couple months with family before undergoing more training in preparation for going to Afghanistan at the end of this coming summer.
