Breakfast with Santana

I decided in August that I would take a trip with Koda and Tinkerbell. If only my toe, I wanted to enter the world of camping. I could gather up the essential camping gear for sleeping but decided that the trip needed to be on the urban side of camping. What a better place to go but 10 miles north of San Francisco. I knew I could get breakfast served if I was willing to drive just a few minutes.

It would be exciting sleeping outdoors in a two- man tent with my dogs. I brought a… Continue

Hot Chocolate Story

I got this from a friend and thought it a good story.

THE HOT CHOCOLATE STORY

A group of graduates, well established in their careers, were talking

at a reunion and decided to go visit their old university professor, now

retired. During their visit, the conversation turned to complaints

about stress in their work and lives. Offering his guests hot chocolate, the

professor went into the kitchen and returned with a large pot of hot

chocolate and an… Continue

Martin Luther King Jr.’s 6 facts about non-violent resistance.

Adapted from Peace to All Beings, by Judy Carman (Lantern Books, 2003).

a Care2.com favorite

From his deep studies of Gandhi and his own experience, Martin Luther King Jr. developed a list of six facts to help people understand non-violent resistance and join with him in his vision.

King’s words are as insightful and thought provoking today as they were when he wrote them:

1. Non-violent resistance is not for cowards. It is not a… Continue

An ethical relation to the land.

"It is inconceivable to me that an ethical relation to the land can exist without love, respect, and admiration for the land, and a high regard for its value. By value, I of course mean something far broader than mere economic value; I mean value in the philosophical sense."

Gitanjali (1912) Rabindranath Tagore

where the mind is without fear and the head is held high Where knowledge is free Where the world has not been broken into fragments by domestic walls Where words come out of the depth of truth Where tireless striving stretches its arms to perfection Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action-- Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.

Emancipation Proclamation Redux

Almost 150 years after President Lincoln signed the document that ended slavery in one fell swoop, we stand on the threshold of a fuller freedom, as our first hybrid president, who understands viscerally what it means to be both black and white, reaches beyond human-contrived barriers to unite us as a global people under Love's umbrella: a true Aquarian Age leader.

The world has responded with such an outpouring of joy to Brarack Obama's… Continue

The timing of the "one week" ceasefire in Gaza

r Here's a thought from the Sunday cynic in Eastern Ontario. The U.S. doesn't need or "want" any distracting major headline news for about the next "week". Gee, I wonder what could be going on that this would be the case?

A hint for the economic crisis

Our World

Hi everyone My son Mike told me about this place and I think it's great. My generation I am 47 somehow has become numb to what is happening in our world. How have we let our children think that solving their issues with violence is ok. We have turned a blind eye to taking responsibility to this. We need to stand up and tell our children and the world that it is not acceptable anymore to use violence to solve our problems. It doesn't work. I read a book once by Elizabeth Peters It was just a… Continue

Just wondering

I'm always writing random thoughts down on random pieces of paper and today I came across these two from a few years ago. Does anyone else think about these things or have an opinion? I'm going to type them as I wrote them, so it may not be that easy to follow.

From a spiritual/mythological/psychological point of view - what are the connections in recorded history (particularly in relation to the Judaic/Christian/Muslim religious traditions) between indigenous peoples of the world,… Continue
